Utrecht is located about 50
km from
Amterdam
Airport Schiphol.
Schiphol is a main airport transporting 48 million passengers per year
(2007) to
and from over 90 intercontinental and over 110 European destinations.
|
|
- Train
- Utrecht
is the centre of the
Dutch
railway net.
- Frequent trains (4 times
per hour) connect Schiphol directly to Utrecht. Trains leave the
airport from platform 1-2 or 3 for Utrecht (direction 'Utrecht
Centraal').
- During the night there
is one train per hour leaving from platform 1-2 directly to Utrecht
(direction 'Amsterdam Centraal').
- Train tickets
can be obtained from the ticket offices in the central hall of the
airport where you can pay with bank notes and credit cards. However, tickets
will be cheaper when obtained from
a
ticket machine (use destination
'Utrecht Centraal') in the luggage hall or the central arrival hall of
the airport. You can pay with a Maestro bank card or coins. Unfortunately
these machines do not accept credit cards or notes. A one-way ticket
from Schiphol to Utrecht costs €7.80 (first class €13.20).
- Utrecht is not directly
connected to the high speed net from Belgium and France. Arriving
from the direction of Brussels/Paris one should change trains in Rotterdam. The
high speed train from Germany makes a stop in Utrecht.

Taxi
It
is possible to go from Schiphol to Utrecht by taxi for €55 (max. 4
passengers) if you make reservations
here
(website mainly in Dutch).
Another, somewhat more expensive, possibility can be found
here. Upon arrival on the air port report to the
Schiphol Transfer Assistance in the
central arrival hall.
There is a taxi stand in front of the arrival hall where you can also take
a taxi without reservation. Prices can, however, differ from company to
company.

|
- Car rental
- Several
car rental companies (Europcar,
National
Car,
Avis,
Budget
and
Hertz)
have their desks in Schiphol Plaza, the central arrival hall at the
airport. The car rental car park is located at a short walking distance
from the terminal building.

- Bus
- Within
the city of Utrecht probably the best means of transportation is the bus.
There are two direct bus-lines from the Central Railroad Station to the
University Centre De Uithof (line 11 and 12).
- Click
here
for directions on how to reach the conference location.
Here you can find a door-to-door
Journey Planner for public transportation.
- Bus
tickets can be bought from the driver in the bus. It is, however, cheaper
to buy a "strippenkaart". The most common one contains 15
strips. For each journey the busdriver will stamp the proper amount of
strips. Within the centre of Utrecht 2 strips are needed. From the city
centre to the University Centre you need 3 strips.
- The
price of a "strippenkaart" with 15 strips is €7.30 and can be
obtained from the ticket office on the railway station, post offices, many
kiosks and several supermarkets.
